A splendid Georgian double bay fronted property with rambling garden views, a perfect setting for a one room furnishing make over.
Brief:
The aim was to add ‘life’ to the drawing room with vibrant colour, yellow to be precise with swags and tails providing plenty of drama. This room was to be a haven of privacy and a place to retreat, away from the rest of the house.
We set to fulfilling the brief by applying a bright sunny hue to the walls such as Woodbine, Little Greene Paint. The ceilings were tall and an abundance of light was present throughout the day. This sun packed room took ownership of a large bay and an aesthetically pleasing French door to the extensive garden to the side. My client wanted to retain the purple and flame gold floral fabric sofa and chair, which exudes a royal air. The Georgian proportions of the room would easily facilitate swags and tails as it would be appropriate to that period.
I advised that the curtain arrangement should not be too overpowering and fussy suggesting a series of swags without the tails, replaced by small stiffened pelmet boards at each end. Fabric from Camengo, was selected for both curtains and swags, which portrayed slight regency and warmth. The property had dark oak wooden flooring throughout the ground floor which suited the style of the house perfectly, but client opted for a medium pile carpet in a straw hue coupled with a thick underlay for extra padded comfort and warmth.
