Functional and Stylish

We are delighted with the transformation of our conservatory to office space which was previously a tired and wasted area of our house. It has now been given a new lease of life and reached its full potential, thank you.

Client, Hertford

The conservatory was an addition to this end of terrace Victorian property as far back as 2004, and had for many years acted as a dual ‘dumping’ ground and workroom. The space had never fulfilled its full potential or been used for a specific use, although it had started out as a dining room!

This is often the scenario for conservatories, particularly if a property is limited in rooms for specific functions. The brief was simple. My clients wanted to claim back the space as an office, retain the elegance and simplicity of the structure, have all clutter out of sight, modern, and inclusive of a London theme.

The proposal was set about by making changes to convert this potentially attractive area into an environment to be proud of. Armed with inspiration from the in situ black and white floor tiles, the way forward was clear. We were eager to fulfil the brief of maintaining the elegance of the room and not strip it of its classical lines.

A suggestion of keeping it light with flowing lines in fabrics and wall coverings was paramount and accepted by the clients.  The ‘impact’ of the room was to be delivered via the window treatments as there was only one wall available to decorate, and this had to become the point of visual interest.  City scape ‘Londinium’ wallpaper from Graham & Brown was the perfect wallpaper with the clients fondness of London, and fitted the contemporary edge. A desk and storage unit, all bespoke (see below) were designed in high quality 40mm Egger laminate, with high gloss drawer fronts complete with soft closing drawers, coupled with an overhead cabinet in the same with up hinged doors and gloss fronts again.

The light levels were maintained by installing roller blinds, allowing maximum light, and the ability to be able to see the view of the small cottage garden. The blinds also complimented and reflected the garden by carrying a leaf  pattern. The result was stunning and refreshing.

Task Lighting

Add splashes of colour with this desk lamp, purchased from John Lewis. It makes a statement throughout the monochromatic and modern setting. Stationery also from John Lewis.

Good Storage

Storage was important for our client. We managed to locate neutral coloured boxes from the Storage Company to ground the effect and harmonise the monochromatic scheme.
